"If there is a pile of manure in the space, do not try to remove the odor by ventilation. Remove the pile of manure"
deep insights from my architecture energy & environment class

Love will always outlast ambition.  Take your focus off of why you do what you do and fix it on who you do it for.

Today was one of those days at work. I looked at my to-do list and started blanking out, staring into the megapixels between each word. I finally mustered up enough energy to start my work but fizzled out within 15 minutes. There was no joy, no passion, no desire to do anything I was doing. I felt…

wunderful wurster

thankful that the place that once seemed like a prison,
its concrete walls cold, dull, unwelcoming
has become a blank canvas for my mind
and the work that i used to feel overwhelmed by -
struggling to keep up,
nervously driven by fear of critique -
has now become something i eagerly and boldly approach
arms & imagination wide open
knowing that each seemingly impossible duedate
is an opportunity to build, test, and refine my faith:
my faith in Colossians 3:23-24,
in a goal much higher than just getting a good review, grade, or job
that was written on my heart long before i even knew what it meant.

Digital Collages of People Climbing Stairs by Jiyen Lee via MMM

Korean artist Jiyen Lee has created a series of hypnotizing digital collages that present people going up and down stairs, as seen from a bird’s eye view. Each puzzling assemblage features an unidentifiable traffic of pedestrians on an endless journey. It also remains unclear whether they are actually ascending or descending the steps in front of them, as Lee has taken the artistic liberty of reconfiguring images in unimaginable compositions. Like an M. C. Escher painting, the artist’s digitally manipulated images present a saturation of staircases with no perceivable beginning or end.

“therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. for the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand at the throne of God.”

An Architects Guide to effective Nap Times:
Turbo Nap: 20-30min (30min MAX)
Quick Nap: 1hr 30min (One full cycle)
Light Nap: 2hr 50min (Very Effective)
Short Nap: 3hr 30min
Long Nap: 4hr 30min (Two full cycles)
* Anything over 5 hours I wouldn’t really consider a nap, lol.

amazing grace

after I decided it would be best to pull an all-nighter at 6am because if I slept i wouldn’t be able to wake up for my 9:30am class, I promptly fell asleep within half an hour while reading (bad idea) in my bed (even worse idea) and resting my eyes for 60-mississippi’s (it seemed like a brilliant idea at the time…but alas, terrible idea) sans alarm. i jolted awake promptly at 8:30 am (i don’t know/remember why/how), giving me just enough time to get ready, eat breakfast, and make it to class without walking in like i had just finished a marathon. score.

considering my horrible track record with not waking up to my alarm(s), i know this is nothing short of God’s amazing grace by which i live each day

speaking of amazing grace, how can i forget to mention these girls?

whether I have met them for the first time today, seen them around but not much more than that, been discipling them, or known them since the beginning of cal - I know that God has so much in store for them this semester and I am so soso thankful and blessed that he has entrusted to me and anna to shepherd this semester. their hunger, their transparency, their hearts, it’s all so beautiful and it humbles and challenges me and for that i am all the more thankful.

truly, truly, words could not express.
